unconditional surrender

On the bay front in Sarasota, Florida, sits the 26′ statue
“Unconditional Surrender’ by Seward Johnson.
It has such a wow factor as you drive past with the city and bay surrounding it.
It was modeled after the photograph V-J Day in Times Square by Alfred Eisenstaedt,
a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square after the surrender of the Japanese in WWII.

It originally came to the ‘Sarasota Season of Sculpture’ show on the bay front in 2005.
Meant to be on display temporarily, a WWII veteran purchased it for the city.

Our recent trip found us getting up close and personal.  Those are some big shoes!
