Red as an accent is brilliant. It pops, glams, soothes, and brightens.
It pairs well with most colors – adds allure and a spot of sophistication. For me it’s a kitchen staple (like kosher salt and black pepper).

Turn up the heat with one of my favorite ‘accessories’

A rosy outlook runs deep in style this year.
Marsala, the Pantone color pick of 2015 is making a splash
on walls, jewels, makeup, and fashion with a forward feel – from a formerly subtle color.

Varying shades of rose are showing up strong with more glow to the iPhone,
your skin tones (chestnut, cherry or in between) as well as an added gust of glamour
to the soft and sophisticated tones of your home.
A slightly grey(ed) down rose has a modern edge and a subtle flair
that brings light and adds lux to fashion and fabrics (and all that’s adorned in it).

Pantone announced the color of the year and it’s Marsala!
Just like the color of the fortified wine it is, the rich warm shade of red-brown
is earthy, yet sophisticated.
It’s flattering against skin tones – think make-up, clothes & jewelry.
When used in a matte finish the look tends to be more organic
and with a sheen, more glamorous.
See how this versatile color can work in your world.,,20687819_20878924_30268357,00.html

Purple has continued to inspire me throughout the past few months.
With Radiant Orchid as Pantone’s Color pick for 2014 (see post here)
we have seen it invade homes and wardrobes everywhere.
Chihuly’s exhibit in Denver (see post here) and my recent vacation to Napa
(yes, wine is a shade of purple) shows how enticing the color can be.
After attending a Sherwin Williams’ ‘No Shrinking Violets’ presentation recently
I was ready for a follow-up post on the color of the year.

Color trends commonly start on the runway.

Burberry has been using purple in their iconic plaid for many years now.

It wouldn’t be a fashion post without including my favorite handbag designer, Clare Vivier.

If deep shades aren’t your thing, try the pale tones.

One of the few stars that can get away with purple hair, Kelly Osbourne.

A little glitter updates typical polish.

Not a bad compliment to bland colored food.

Chihuly’s purple glass paired with seasonal purple flowers at the Denver Botanical Gardens were incredible.

A Nickel and Nickel tour in Napa left us filling out order forms at the tasting.
Yes, purple does evoke good feelings.
Maybe it was subconscious, but I did wear it in Napa.

Kids love purple!

My daughter Ruby’s favorite color has been red for as long as I can remember,
and this year she announced it’s purple! (with no influence from me). new purple metallic boots!

It’s hard to do purple on an entire exterior, but it’s great as an accent.
